The swimming pool's pump basket cover (hayward) has warped/leaked after 3x replacement. What's the cause?
Question:When the pre-pump filter basked cover (hayward) leaked on the first occassion, we changed the cover and o-ring and lubricant. After a few hours it leaked again and we could not get a seal so we replaced the basket assembley and once again could not create a seal. So we replaced the cover/ring/lube again and watched for signs of heat buildup and there was none. Yet, after a few hours the cover warped/leaked again. So on and so forth and we are seeking help in finding the cause so we can fix the problem.
Answers:
If the sand has hardened it won't increase suction pressure, it will create a bit of back pressure into the pump but this won't cause the problem you're encountering.
It sounds like you have a serious problem with the water chemistry, have excessive heat build up at the basket assembly, possibly have a bearing going out in the pump motor, or have excessive physical pressure on the fittings pulling the basket assembly out of shape.
Feel free to drop me a line at robandliz1992@yahoo.com with a couple pictures of the basket assembly and pump area and I'll see what I can figure out.
Its the pressure and the chemicals, I use Baquacil, it also is hard on rubber o-rings. But the dealer told me the chemicals react at the cover, and the pressure creates hairline fractures. I have to replace it at least once a season. Ive just written it off as being one of the expenses that goes with having a pool.
Sorry, just read the rest of your question. I think the basket may be warped, and pressure is taking care of the rest on the new o-ring and cover, no way in heck it should leak that fast! Replace the basket/housing, and if you haven't this year, change the sand, if your sand has hardened in the filter it leads to increased suction pressure.
