I recently put in some down lighters and 1 set of my kitchen lights will not turn on?

Question:there are no loose / disconnected wires

Answers:
you do not say if the new down lighters are in your kitchen or if they are low voltage . are they on a two way ? are the two side connected together on one circuit or are they two different circuits?
terry
most lighting circuits in UK are radial and use 6amp. down lighters normally run via transformers on a radial circuit.
a ring final circuit is 13A socket outlets. a ring main is what runs down the road feeding power to houses street furniture and the like.

Loos connections
If your switch is a multi gang check that you have not lost the live feed to the faulty circuit usually a link between common connection on switch.
if it doesnt come on, maybe its pregnant?
You have to add all the ampage rates together. For instance if you are into a 13 amp circuit all the lamps must add up to 13. To get more into the system you will have run another 13 amp line.

That is why you have ring mains to spread the load.
