How can I stop foldng closet doors for making sounds when sliding across bottom track? What about squeaking?

Question:The closet door appears to be on the track, but when it opens and closes there is a grating sound as it slides along the track. I tried rubbing it down with vegetable oil, and no change. Also, what can I do for doors which squeak when they open and cose?

Answers:
What you have are bi-fold closet doors. To fix this problem, readjust the door hight. There should be adjusters on the inside, near the top or on the bottom of the doors. When adjusting make sure they a square with the opening so that they don't rub the sides or bottom and make sure that the doors close properly.

WD 40 works better than vegetable oil.
YOU NEED TO GO TO A HARDWARE STORE AND TELL THEM YOUR PREDICAMENT AND THEY WILL REFER YOU TO A SPRAY YOU CAN USE
WD 40
take a small amount of oil or use pam spay to it in the metal pieces and at the bottom use some qtips to clean the inside where it slides then take a clean qtip and put a little oil also.
For the doors that squeak, that is easy WD40 from the hardware store. For the track thing, it sounds like your roller is not mating up properly and is therefore rubbing metal on metal. That is the sound and that is why it is hard to close. Pull the door off and check both the area around the roller and the run for signs of metal to metal contact. Such as paint being scraped away, metal discoloration, that sort of a thing. Also look for bent areas. If the roller is bent, that is the cause, replace the roller. You can pick up most rollers for fairly cheap at any hardware store. I know Lowe's is more than willing to help on anything like that. If the run in bent, straighten the bent part carefully with a hammer. If it is too small to do with a hammer, then use a screw driver and something to lever it with. Make sure you are not in contact with another part of the roller, because this will just end up bending it also.
try spraying graphite. I don't have those kind of doors, but it worked on mine
You can take a stick candle (the tall skinny type) and rub some of the wax inside the track. It should glide smoother on the wax. Also, use a paper towel and wipe out the vegetable oil first. The person who advised to check and adjust the top has a good idea, but I had a set of by-fold doors from the 1950s that didn't have adjustments on the top like the newer ones do. You can also check the sliders at the bottom of the door and see if they are worn. You can get replacement parts at most home improvement stores like Home Depot or Lowes or Ace.
WD40 or better yet is silicone in a can. I had some really hard patio sliding doors and a friend bought me a can of white silicone spray and it worked so well and lasted alot longer than WD40. In a pinch though things like soap and cooking spray will work.
If a door squeaks then it is not sitting in there properly. It needs to be adjusted ( realigned with the framework about it).
try replacing the casters
Try WD40 on closet track. I regularly use same on door hinges. Happy squirting.
Silicone spray.
the doors are prob not square with the track, they tend to become loose, they have adjustments on top that you can make.
Try baby powder lol it will work just fine. Also corn starch will work for this.
pour oil over the hinges
rub a dry bar of bath soap onto the track--same thing for doors, just rub the bar all over the hinges.
