IN Dallas Texas-How much will it cost to have sky light install on home?
Question:i would like to have sky light install on the roof of my home here in Dallas Texas. i would like to get a guess estamate. for those who have it done, how much did it cost you? my home is a two story home and it have an attic. i would like to have it right above my bathroom on the second floor because there's no window. so i thought that instead of having the window install, it would be better if i have sky light instead. Thanks in advance for your reply.

you can purchase a solar lite from home depot or Lowe's, for under $200 these are the round tube sky lite and are very easy to install,these work great for homes with attics,, they come in different diameters ,will take less than 2 hours to install, or to have someone else install it will cost somewhere in the $500 range total price,

Individuals in TX are not required to have a Contractors License for what your describing. If you want the tube type skylite, the Lowes or Home Depot are fine, if you want a conventional skylite or even operable, consider Velux brand. An operable window might be nice to ventilate heat from the room. You will want the best possible R value for the skylite to keep the bathroom from baking (once all this rain stops). The price you pay for the window will be offset 3-fold for the improvement of your home.
I would hire a roofing specialist to perform the work. The framing is minor, including the shaft that will be framed from the rafters to the ceiling joists. But waterproofing and flashing is paramount. As standard framing is 24" o.c., if you buy a skylight with a 22" inside dimension, you will not have to cut any roof framing members (truss or stick framed).
Although I can't tell you how much they would cost, I will recommend that instead of a skylight you have a solar tube installed. They are less expensive, less likely to leak and will give you all the light you need to have. We have one in our second story bathroom here in Minnesota.
