Is it ok to use fireplace in living room as hot air exhaust outlet for the window-mounted or portable aircon?
Question:For those experts in these area or who have experience in this before, may I ask a question?
To save energy, I am thinking of using a small portable or room air con to cool the living room area, in stead of using the central air.
Is it possible and ok to put or install the room window mounted or portable air con in the fireplace window, using the fireplace chimney as the hot air exhaust outlet? Is there any damage or danger that may result from doing this? Thank you very much.

I'm not TOTALLY sure, but I think there's a real reason why they say to vent it OUTSIDE (not into a chimney!). Moisture and mold could build up in there, added to the creosote that's probably already clogging it up.
If it;s window mounted, then it automatically vents outside (make sure it slants slightly downward to let water/condensation run off).
But if it's portable, I am ALMOST CERTAIN you need to vent it directly outside. Ask someone where you buy it!
Where are you going to put the condensate water?
i wouldnt do it...
