Wet Air Conditioning Filter...ck my ac/filter and it was damp/wet?

Question:I was checking my a/c filter and it was very damp. the drain lines are working fine and have not overflowed. we have had tons of rain and high humidity all spring/summer...any thoughts. I did pour some bleach in the drain line and it is flowing okay. also poured some over the evaporator ? coils which are directly above the filter. is it possible that we are having so much humidity that not all condensation is flowing properly down the coils and dripping on the filter? thanks for your help/answers

Answers:
Is this a window A/C unit? if so...check to make sure it slopes slightly downward, to the outside. If it does NOT, the water is flowing back into the unit, creating wetness.

Also, any A/C unit (window or otherwise) needs regular maintenance and cleaning. For the larger ones, hire someone. For the window units, if you're handy, do it yourself (see DIY.com for an step-by-step guide).

There are also tablets you can put in to stop build-up of algae and bacteria.

Sounds like your home has excess humidity.a/c systems actually remove moisture out of the air that is why the filter was damp.
