We replace the hot water heater and now the shower water smells bad. any ideas?
Question:we just bought this house a few months ago. it had two vary old hot water tanks that flowed from one to the other then into the house. well, one of the m gave out so we took out both of them and installed a brand new energy efficient model. recently we have noticed the shower water stinks. i'm not sure if its the hot or cold water that smells.
Answers:
it is called an anode rod. your water is acidic. that means you need a pro. removing the rod will stop the smell, probably, but not other things you need to fix. dont call culligan, but call every company in your area and take the best one.only a real water test will tell you what to do . homeremodeler00@yahoo.com
You stirred up sediment in the pipes, it should settle down before long. If not, it is the water supply and some sort of filter based on a water analysis that tells you what you need to filter out is called for.
Are you sure they were both hot water heaters?
One of them may have been for water treatment. Either a water softener or a filter system.
I've never heard of having two water heaters for a single home unit.
If your on a city water system and your neighbors dont have this problem it may just be sediment and stuff broken lose when you replaced the heater.
If your on a well. Which might explain why you had 2 tanks. One was supply storage. You may need a filter system or softener system.
Hot water heaters usually have an anodizing rod in them . If it is not there, you can get a rotten egg smell, but you usually smell it from ALL the taps. I've never heard of a smell from just one tap... Are you sure there's no smell anywhere else? If there were, I'd say you got a defective one.
And 2 hot water heaters, wile unusual, is not unheard of if you need 80 gal. of hot water. cheaper than a huge one to add another 40 gal....
is it that rotten egg smell??
