What is '18 gg' stainless steel?

Question:my customer wants stainless steel bowl made of '18 gg' stainless steel, but not able to explain what is '18 gg stainless steel'

18 gg means 18 gage stainless. This is the thickness/strength of the stainless.

"gg" is an abbreviation for "gauge". 18-gauge metal is fairly thin. Most bowls are 16 gauge or thicker. Are they being real picky or are they just idiots who heard "18gg" somewhere and fixated on it?
