Gas Fitters / Plumbers - How much to fit a gas hob?
Question:How much is it to fit a gas hob? A relatively simple job on a kitchen island so no crawl about dinghy corners. There was a six inch extention required to the existing pipe under the floorboards and then some copper piping with about 4 elbows from the floor into the appliance. Job done. But charged £240.

I think you've been done - the materials shouldn't have cost more than £20 inc. VAT, that's retail, not trade. So you've got to be looking at £90 per hour labour excl. VAT.
Get someone to give the guy a call, and ask what his hourly rate is.
That said, if you've paid, there's not a lot you can do.
Is that in London? Either way very expensive, I'd pay top whack £100 for that in Cardiff.
Less than a tenner for the materials from what you have said. Was there a hole to cut in the worktop? If there was then you were still being generous if you had given £100. It shouldn't have taken that long to do.
Sorry but you have had the wide brimmed hat wearers in, 3m of 15 mm pipe even from (exp.) DIY shop £9. Female adaptor? Pass. Gas isolator? Pass. 4 elbows, no more than £4. 2 unions (which I would take to be straight connectors), no more than £2
If there was a gas leak, and it was coming from one of his own joints, then believe me, HE IS NOT A PLUMBER.
I will stick with my earlier estimate of less than £100
Sorry mate , but you have been 'done'
you were overcharged
u should always check for tightness first
before any work is carried out
80.00/90.00 max
I bought a gas hob & electric oven from Comet & they charged £120 to fit them both.
