Where can I purchase roofing shingle tabs by the truck load?
Question:I live in east Texas and have a driveway off the main road that is over one half mile long and about fifteen feet wide. I want to lay down roofing shingle tabs instead of paving the drive with asphalt or pouring concrete but I am having a difficult time finding them. Where can I purchase these by the truckload and have them delivered?
Answers:
Paving your road with asphalt shingles? You live in East Texas all right. Yippee-ki-yi-yay.
the best place would probably be the closest dump (not a joke) go there and ask if they dont mind you looking through the stuff that is dumped, there are alot of shingles dumped at places like that, or if you happen to see a dumpster truck ask him where they dump, and the company, they may be able to dump dirrectly on your property and it would save them money also...but make sure its only what you need, your also taking a big chance of nails and other debrie,,,,i hope that works for you
If you're going to do something like this, I would definately not get them at the dump. When roofers remove shingles from a roof, they use a special shovel that acts like a big scraper blade. That means they take up nails and all. Say that you find 5000 shingle at the dump. With at least 2 nails per shingle, thats 10,000 nails youre laying down in your driveway and running your expensive tires over. Its not worth it in the long run.
I suggest a crushed stone called chert. Its a very small gravel with rock duct mixed in. After its watered down and packed down its like concrete. It's fairly cheap and you can get it at any gravel yard or a dump truck service can usually hook you up.
