If you can't change the tiles, would you be able to put bathtub non-slip decals on them? The cost would be minimal, considering the safety issues at hand, and are removable too. You can get them in a huge assortment of colors and designs as well as something that might blend in with the tiles.
Another thing you could do is put down some bathroom throw rugs that have non-skid rubber backings on them, but when they get wet they'll become squishy and would require washing when they get dirty.
An option would be to place muratic acid on tiles, this would "rough" up the tiles, therefore you won't slip. Just be careful where you place it, for it is an acid and will kill vegetation. Also double check with landlord first to see if its ok to do this. The appearance of the tiles will remain the same if you use this acid. I have used it on marble showers and floors. Just be careful if you decide to use muratic acid, wear gloves and again be mindful of vegetation around tiles. You can buy at Home Depot, place acid on tile for about 30 seconds then rinse off, again make sure you don't get any on your skin. Hope this helps
If you use the safety treads they will eventually curl up and come off maybe even before the summer is over...
I know...sand and paint...mix lots of sand into a neutral color paint and go to town...The paint should be outdoor floor paint?
