How do i find out if a well is running properly and how much would it cost to repair consideringremotelocation
Question:I would like to get an idea of the possible problems also because the well has not been used for 5 years. how do they test the well and how much it might cost
Answers:
If the system has a bladder tank you don't have to worry about water logging issues unless the bladder get a hole in. If you have an old fashioned galvanized storage tank, make sure there is a working air volume control and bleeders are installed on the drop pipe. You only have to worry about the foot valve if it's a jet pump. If it's a submersible pump there is no foot valve. I would get the water tested and also have a plumber test the draw down level in the well to make sure it won't run dry on you.
Your county health dept. should test the water. I've used wells that were at least 100 yards away. Some of the problems yous could run into is a stuck foot valve at the bottom of the well( you would have to pull the hoses out of the well to clean or replace it) Another common problem is a water logged holding tank. All you need to do to it is let it drain all the way and fill it back up. I've even pumped air into the tank (about 60 psi). If the tank is water logged the pump will tend to come on more often.
