How can I make my house colder?
Question:I dont have air conditioning. I just have alot of fans. Its still really hot. How can i make it colder. Its a pretty big house also. Help!

Many of the answers above are good. One thing to note -- it is very common for people to "overheat" their house by running fans all day while at work. Fans running don't help cool the air -- they just move it and if you have your windows open all day and the fans running -- they just bring in hot air.
Close up your house during the day (and cover those windows as stated above). Open your windows only during the evening after it starts to cool off outside -- i.e. only have windows open while it is colder outside than it is on the inside.
srry i'll leave.. :]
You could open all the windows, especially at night, when it is a little bit colder. Hope I helped.

You should invest in one of the air conditioners that sit in a window. you can get them at any store like Target. It will only run you about 100 dollars. Keep you blinds or drapes shut. Open doors and windows minimually. Place fans around the house. Don't try to cool off rooms that you don't really need to be in. Bathroom, extra bedroom, office etc.
i know it sounds funny but put aluminum foil over the windows, close all blinds and curtains and close all the rooms off that you don't need cooled. also put fans in each rooms (with doors closed and curtains/blinds pulled shut) that you will need cooled. then when the sun goes down open the windows and put the fans in them.
If you're desperate to cool down, place a bag of ice in front of a fan and let the fan blow across it and into the room. This is the old fashion way but it honestly works. Just make sure you put the ice in a bowl big enough to hold the melted water to avoid a mess.
I know it sounds dumb but it works. Its a poor man's swamp cooler.
