I have a general electric refrig, double door with ice maker/ H2O. it stopped getting cold, Whats the problem?

Question:The refrigerator is almost 4 years old. It was working fine up until very early today. Both the refrigerator portion & the freezer get cool only on the highest cycle, but the freezer will not freeze items. I took everything out, cleaned it from top to bottom, checked the main plug, water /icemaker line which is connected. The refrig. light is on as normal, the door closes when shut as before, there are no unusual sounds emanating from the device. The ice machine will not make ice, but it does dispense cold h20.A thin layer of soft snow like ice crystals have now formed on the back wall of the freezer. Presently it is cold enough to keep the contents fresh, but not cold as it should, or used to be. I have a repair person coming in 2 days, but would like any input any of you may have. I have tried to give all the pertinent data that I know to give in order to get a helpful answer.

You have a defrost problem. http://appliancequickfix.com/
will tell you step by step how to track down the defective part.

themostat you need a new one ....
sounds like your ice maker plastic hose may be stopped up or have a leak in it...I have never had an icemaker that works for long.sometimes it's too close to the wall or the top is close in where it is not getting enough air circulating around it.
your coils may need cleaning..if not,,you may have blown a small hole in coil..he will test it and fix the hole,,,but it could blow a hole somewhere else...has it been moved recently??
Check the coils. They might have something on them. I have found them covered in pet hair or dust, even paper bags.

Other than that. I will not trouble shoot it over the internet. You get what you pay for. Let the man with the tools fix it the first time.
it is possible that your defrost clock or defrost terminator oor defrost element is bad. This repair is best left to the refrigeration tech, also check your condenser coil under the refrigerator if you have that type, make sure it is not plugged. Good luck!!
may be your condense coil is leaking therefore it run out of gas. jsut left to the refri. tech. to do it. some times we have to get person to earn they money too. it goods for the economy.
