a little lemon oil on a rag works great -just moisten a rag with it and get rubbing in a circular motion-it does wonders
The above answer will give you temporary improvement. To permanently change the floor, sand with 120 grit screen on a rented orbital floor sander. This will remove fine scratches, deep scratches require a belt or drum sander and 100 grit. After sanding, apply one coat of the most expensive floor finish you can afford. Usually with a lambswool applicator. This will make the floor look like new. If you sand down to bare wood those areas will need three coats.
