Can you hook a dishwasher up if it's not right next to your sink?
Question:We have a dishwasher in our kitchen that's been here for 3 years now but our landload said that we can't hook it up because it has to sit next to the sink. Is that true? Is there a way we can hook it up and use it even if it's not next to the sink?
Thanks :)

The reason it's placed near the sink is for the water supply and drainage. If you decide to put it farther or against the opposite wall, you'd have two sets of hoses running across your floor or you'd have to spend a lot of money to hide them in the floor. The hoses have to be connected to a source of water and a drain, and in the kitchen, that's your sink.
It's easier & cheaper to hook it up next to the sink.
But if there's a will, there's a way!! That's my hubbies motto!
Yes, it can be done, check with your local home improvement store for more details...sometimes they even offer workshops.
Go for it, you can do it!
you sure can!
you will have to drill bigger holes in the back and along side of the cabinets get hoses and connect the hoses to the drain pipe.\
that's all I know. call an appliance store. give them all the numbers on the dishwasher. they will help you more than I.
I am just telling you it can be done. we did it.
Well, Ed did. lol good luck!
MY DISHWASHER IS IN THE KITCHEN "ISLAND" AND THE SINK IS FAR FAR AWAY. YES U CAN.
My dishwasher is not next to my sink, but it was not retro fitted. When the house was built they hooked up that way. Unless you want to pay money to a carpenter and a plumber and the landlord okays it, I don't think it would be worth your while. I bought a used portable dishwasher when I lived in an apartment and that's how I worked it out when I had no dishwasher.
If it cannot be placed in a permanent location, there are kits to put it on wheels and hook it up to the kitchen sink.
If you are talking about a permanent setup, as long as you can get water, electricity, and waste water out you can make it work. The hardest is waste water since you need proper venting and a trap. The trap is accomplished by making sure the outlet hose goes up the height called for by the manufacturer before it goes into the drain.
