Why would a water softener cause sudsy water to come out of the faucet?

Question:I have a water softener, and I woke up this morning to sudsy water coming out of the faucet. It stops when I turn the softener off.

Answers:
CALL FOR SERVICE. dont play with your water!

If it is brand new and this is the first time is has been used this is normal. The water will be almost milky in color. Just run a lot of water through it and it will clear up.

If this is not a new unit it may have been interrupted in the middle of a regeneration cycle. It could also be that the brine tank is empty and air got sucked into the resin tank. If the brine tank is empty force a manual regeneration.

You may need service if the regeneration does not work properly and the brine tank does not get about 1/3 full of water.
