Help! My electric oven won't turn off. How can I turn it off? I think it's to heavy to move to unplug.

Question:I was cooking a meatloaf and went to check on it and the bottom heating element was sparking, so I turned it off. An hour later I went out to my kitchen, and it was so hot out there. I opened the oven and the heat is still on. I tried turning it on broil and turning it back, but that didn't work. I'm home alone and the stove is too heavy to move to unplug it. Any suggestions? I appreciate your help!

Cliff and Rich were almost right and Rich has a nice hat.
The reason that it wont shut off is that the element is broken and shorting to the case of the oven and running on 110V.
Shut off the breakers or remove the fuses. If you are in the U.S. the breakers will be double 50 Amp. If you are handy, you can replace the element. Its not difficult, but if you arent,
call for service before turning it back on. It sounds to me like
your stove is not grounded properly or it should have blown the breaker. http://appliancequickfix.com/ can explain more
about how your stove works. Please be carefull.

They don't normally plug in! You should have a main switch somewhere, otherwise remove the 30Amp fuse from the main fuse box.
CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. IT IS A FREE SERVICE
Move it, if you can to unplug it.
Otherwise try to find your electric box and start turning off the switches until you find the one that feeds the oven.
do you know where the circuit breaker is in the house? if you do go to it and shut the kitchen down it should be written near it if you don't know what i'm talking about there is a metal box that will be in the wall or in the basement take a flash light go to it open the door don't worry it won't bite you and you'll either see one of to things you'll see a bunch of switches going sideways find the one that is marked kitchen shut it off or you will see round circuit find the one you need and unscrew it until its out completely don't worry there shouldn't be any thing there that will bite you but if you see exposed wire think don't touch it!! if you need anymore explainations email me
The most likely cause for this problem is a shorted oven control. Shut off your stove breaker (a double 30 or 40 amp Bkr) at the main pannel and have the control tested. The reason I don't think the element could be shorted is that in that case there would be sparks and then a blown breaker or fuse, then no more heat. The fact that it is heating (I assume normally) is that the control is erroneousely calling for the heat because of malfunction.
