How do i install a ceiling light in a room that doesn't have one?

Question:It's a two story home with an unfinished basement and attic. The room without a ceiling light is on the main floor.

Answers:
if there is no attic access above where you want to put the light its going to be a tough one you will need to locate a wall outlet and at switch level around 54 inches off the floor at that height you will need to cut in a switch box using the outlet as your source from the switch wall box at the top plate you will have to cut a grove out in the wall as well as the ceiling and drill a hole tho the top plate ruining the wire between the ceiling joist to the location of the light fixture its called a fish job and it takes a while be sure and turn the power off to that outlet you dont want to get fryed !!

cut holes in the drywall, run wire & patch don't forget to secure ceiling box , or go with some type of surface mounted chanel like wiremold channel
