How does one get the stench of sewer water out of a brick cellar?
Question:The city's sewer water backed up into our brick cellar. We've closed off the drain, and we've cleaned up most of the water with a shop vac. Does anyone have ANY idea how to get rid of this nasty stench?
I would REALLY appreciate any suggestions you may have!!
Answers:
If the city is liable - call and ask them to send a professional cleaner at their expense. If not them - how about steam-away (carpet cleaners, usually)? If that fails: power wash the area and remove all water and remaining moisture (using a dehumidifier - you might have to rent/borrow/buy a second one for a while), fans, ventilation, - then paint the exposed surface with a mildew killer/surface sealer like 'kilz' (your paint supplier probably has it right on the shelf), around $30/gallon I think, but very worth it! .
Stop pooping in your basement, OK?
stop breathing
Get it dry first then wash it. A dehumidifier would help.
light a scented candle.
colone
cat litter and bakingsoda :]
fabreeze is nice too.
you could use a leafblower to dry it...
*You must run a dehumidifier for days on end.
You have to keep emptying the pail, sometimes 3x a day.
*Give a good scrubbing all over the floor with Bleach.
*Run box fans all around the area, for maximum dryness.
im 16... kinda a drains expert ... ventalate the celler somehow
make this mix
clorox bleach, fabuloso, windex, and dial soap...clean it like 4 times it should pick up the smell.
A solution of bleach and water should take care of the majority of the lingering odor. If not, vanilla (pure extract) should help. If you can't get rid of it, there are companies who specialize in clean-up and disinfection for this sort of problem:

They suggest vinegar, baking soda and lemon

You need to run an ionizer to kill smell from mole and bactria, www.airoasis.com makes a good one.
