Answers:
- Well to answer your question about how to increase the filtration in your pool, First thing you need to know is what type of filter you have, cartridge filter, d.e filter, or sand? Each type of filter has a very easy cleaning process
- Cartridge filter: clean thouroughly with a garden hose spray nozzle, put filter in up right position , spray in between cartridge fins or ribs in a downward motion dislodging debree . Once filter is clean, you can use any brand of cartridge cleaner from your local pool store, or a mixture of t.s.p ( tri- sodium- phoaphate) which is a degreaser , and u can pick this up at your local hardware store, and a little bit of liquid shock (chlorine), then add some water into a barrel or a 5 gallon pail , soak filter over night and it will be like new in the morning. Then just rinse with a garden hose.
- Sand filter, Shut pump off, turn multiport handle to backwash , backwash for 1 minute, shut pump off, turn multiport handle to rinse, rinse for about 30 sec, shut pump off, turn handle back to filter and you should notice a big difference in your filtering. ( repeat steps twice if necessary)
-D.E filter , use steps in the sand filter backwashing process first, if that dosnt work use cleaning process for cartridge filter to clean d.e. off filter. It works well.

- To answer your question is pool shock considered chlorine, yes there is chlorine in pool shock , liquid and powdered form and tablets , But there is also a form of non chlorine shock which is good to use when there is heavy bathing use.

- Your water is green mostly because of either poor filtration , lack of sanitizer (chlorine), and your water is probably not balanced properly, also not using algaecide to prevent algae growth will cause a green pool. your local pool supply store should have free water testing, which checks water balance using a computer, it is also a good place to pick up your test strips.

In hot weather you must put in chlorine everyday. If you are using stabiliser which is best you can use the chlorine maybe every 2nd or 3rd day. In cold weather once a week is fine. If the pool is green put in 4 or five cccups of chlorine in the evening and run the pump all night. If its cloudey add some acid.
