Pipes inside the wall make noise?? Plumber??
Question:When we shower, sometimes the pipes will start vibrating. My wife calls it the water hammer. I thought maybe the shower head was not letting the water come out fast enough so I tried changing it and it still seems to happen. Pretty noisy vibrating sound. I asked a couple of plumbers and they were not sure.
Anyone know the problem here?
Answers:
the pipes were not straped down to the inside of wall, this sounds like you have an old house, either that the pipes are gavelized and they may be starting to get cloged
Water hammer is what it is. Not easily fixed, need to put hammer arrestors on the lines or fastem better, both need to be done inside the wall.
We have the same noise. I asked the plumber who said that although the sound is disagreeable, it is not a problem. (I was afraid that the pipes were about to burst...)
Changes in temperature can cause it. Heard bunches of it working around steam pipes.
If it is an older house the washers in the vlaves might me going bad. As the water runs over these worn uneven surfaces it can vibrate the pipe.
Also look for any long runs of pipe that are not secured to the framing. Pipes should be supported every 4'.
its ok..its the pressure in the pipes due to turning the water on
hahah ive had this happen too and dont do as i did..i tore a big hole int he wall to see what it was
