33 x 18 Aboveground pool-- How do I take care of it?
Question:The pool is filled. The pump is installed and ready. The water is green and murky. What should I do to get it clean? Vacuum, pump, chemicals?
Please give detailed instructions! I'm new to this.
Thank you.
Answers:
Your pool sounds sick! I would get in a professional to get it into order, then take care of the maintenance thereafter myself if I were you.
Otherwise. Go the the pool store, presumably you need to go there to buy the chemicals anyway.
They will give you some great advice on how to look after your pool
Take a sample of the water from it with you. They have test kits available and will tell you what you need to do immediately to rectify the problem.
Hopefully you will return well stocked with advice and products to get you on your way.
Go to the phone book. Turn to the page marked pool maintenance. Call.

Is this a rectangular pool? How many gallons does it have? Have you used any chemicals in it yet?
You are going to need to get chlorine into the water first thing. Next you are going to need to get a water analysis done. If you have a test kit that can do the following tests then please do them and send them to me, otherwise take a sample of water to your local pool store and have them test for:
Total chlorine
Free chlorine
Combined chlorine
pH
Alkalinity
Hardness
Cyanuric acid
Total dissolved solids
Metals
Phosphates
This water analysis will tell us exactly where your pool stands. Don't purchase anything from the pool store at this time, tell them you have the chemicals at home. Send me the results at the above email address and include the recommendations they suggest. Feel free to ask them for a total price on everything you would need if you had to purchase it immediately. I can guarantee you we can get your pool cleared up and on a proper maintenance schedule for a fraction of the cost at the pool store.
Go to any pool dealer and take a sample of the water. They will test it and sell you the chemicals you need to make the water clear again. It might be very expensive. I have spent as much as $100 in one trip for my 16'X32' in-ground pool. That's the cost of having a pool. My son is putting a salt water pool in at his new house.
call a pool guy and ask him to show you what to do.you will probably want his advice for closing it up in winter as well
