How do you prevent a smoke detector from working that is attached into the wall?

Question:please help. thanks.

Answers:
turn it counter clockwise and it should release from the wall then just unplug the wores or disconnect the battery

Take out the batteries. I don't have a working one anymore, the batteries died because it would go off everytime someone cooked something with steam.
Why in the world would you want to disable a smoke
detector? Too many house fires where people die
(and its usually kids or old people) the firemen find
out that either they didn't have smoke detectors or
they weren't in working order.
So, are you up to something you shouldn't be, like
smoking in a house or apt. where the lease doesn't
allow it?
Since they're normally all attached to a wall or ceiling, I assume you're referring to one that's connected to the household wiring? You don't turn them off. That's the point of being hardwired, to eliminate the issue of dead batteries or people removing the batteries.

To disable a hardwired smoke detector, you'll have to either physically disconnect it, or I suppose you could temporarily disable one by putting a plastic bag over it.
I would not recommend disconnecting it as it does what it says
Everyone says- don't disable it. If you lived with a detector that screams in your ear every time you cook, use a toaster, take a shower, or even just spray air freshener. It is miserable. Maybe the best thing to do is have it replaced with one that doesn't go off all the time. I know what a nuisance they can be.
how could you live with yourself if there was a fire and the detector wasn't hooked up. people could die! get it repaired or smoke outside or get a better exhaust fan/use the one u have
