Question:I live in kansas - which means summer heat. It is extremely hot right now. Last night we had a severe thunderstorm and the power got knocked out four or five times. turning my window AC on and off in the process. I think something happened because today it won't even turn on.
Yes I checked the breakers, yes I checked to see if it is plugged in, yes I tried a working outlet, any other options? It is costs too much to have someone look at it. PLEASE HELP

Did you check to see if a fuse to the a/c is working?
Plug in something else like a radio or lamp and see if that particular outlet is working; If all else fails try Circuit City, we just bought two small window air conditioner for $89.00 each.
Sometimes a power surge will blow out your AC can also ruin your computer. Next time you have storm unplug your computer and the phone line running to it. A phone man told me this, lightening can blow out the computer thru the phone line.A surge protector is only good for one or two blowouts.
buy a new AC unit, if you can't afford it move to minnesota
Is it on a serge protector? If not it may have If not it may have shorted when the electricity came back on.
It doesn't sound good. It may have been fried by a power surge when it came back on. When power fails it is best to unplug any electronics that are plugged in. Other than that it is advisable to purchase a good power bar that is meant to prevent damage in the event of a power outage.
window air cond units are cheep go buy a new one. PS Sam's has a real nice portable ac unit around 364.00 very easy to hook up check it out. PS during storm you are supposed to shut off electrical appliances
I know that you said you checked the breakers, but did you plug something like a lamp into the outlet to see if it's actually getting power? Sometimes an outlet can get kind of toasted, even though the breaker is fine. You could also try running an extension cord from a different outlet, and plugging it into that.
I can sympathize with the heat - I grew up in Texas! I hope you get your nice cool air back soon!
Many AC units hav a reset button for their own internal breaker. of course the manufacturer never puts these in the easiest or most obvious places to reach. so look carefully.
If it turned it on and off quickly and repeatedly, it probably damaged the unit. Most A/C units (both central and window units) will warn you not to turn it on for 3 - 5 minutes after turning it off at risk of damaging the compressor and internal parts. Damage from this is usually not covered by waranty.
I hope that's not the problem, but good luck.
