Question:i am going to refit a old house can i get grants to help me
Answers:
do it your self live in the house and work nights and week ends on it paying cash for materials from your second job or (side work ) as you go. that way it is all you no debts and no strings attached.
I thought that there use to be some kind of gov. grants given to those who have a historical dwelling that needed preserved.
If you haven't already I would check at our local library for that information or try this site.

I looked online to see if anything came up. I came up with nothing.
If you own the house I don't see where you would qualify for a grant unless maybe if you're disabled. Then you might be able to talk to disability.
I would go talk to the chamber of commerce, (or if you live in a historical society) go talk to them.
The only way i think you could get a grant would be if you donated the house to a worthy cause.
Have you tried a loan from a bank?
What about a second mortgage?
