I just purchased a gasoline generator runs great but fails to produce any electricity.?
Question:Any ideas what's wrong and how can I fix it?

From my web page...
If the engine is working fine, but there is no output voltage try this trick. It may work on standard alternator type generators, but not on those which use an inverter. It worked for me in the past, but try at your own risk. First check to ensure that all circuit breakers and fuses are ok. Shut off the engine and remove any cords from the generator. Plug in a cord with bare wires on the other end to one of the 120VAC outlets. Connect one end of the cord to a car battery. Very quickly touch the other wire to the other battery terminal. Do not leave it there longer than to create a few sparks or you may destroy the windings. If the residual magnetism in the alternator had weakened, this may be enough to get it started again.
Check the fuse, or more likely the breaker to make sure it is on.
If it is not that simple, and you just purchased it, I would return it.
you may have a tripped circuit breaker read your directions
On the back of the generator there should be some one or two push in circiut breakers.see if they are popped out.if not test the receptacles with a volt meter.
Make sure your fuses or breakers are intact, The motor will run with out the generator. make sure the generator is engaged, Also PLEASE Read the Directions all the way through. teach yourself something you didn't know. Linemen get hurt by people hooking up generators to their house and electricity feeds back through the power line down the street, DO NOT ATTEMPT this with out the advise of a license electrician,
Do you have it wired up to anything? A generator just runs unless you wire it up to something that you want to run, like a refrigerator, or lights in your house. You have to wire it to a box and circuit breakers, etc.
