Im building a sunporch?
Question:I am adding a sun room and planned to install a 2000 watt wall heater to augment the heat pump output in cold months. After the walls were framed, I pre-wired with 10/3 NM cable for 220-240v/20amp line voltage to the site for the heater unit and pre-wired for the thermostat with a single low voltage 2-lead thermostat wire to the thermostat mounting location across the room. I ordered the heater unit on-line, but before it arrived the sheetrock was installed and the walls are now closed. Now that the wall heater has arrived, I discovered that it needs a line voltage thermostat. Is there any reasonable alternative to cutting holes in the walls to re-route the hot feed cable through the thermostat?
For instance, can I buy a 240v to 24v transformer to mount next to the heater and run 24v to a low voltage thermostat and then install a 24v relay to control the 240v line feed to the heater? What specific equipment would I need and where can I purchase it?
Thanks
Answers:
No you need to run that through the high voltage thermostat. Can you use the low voltage wires to pull the 220 wires back to where you need it? I'm surprised who ever sold you the heater didn't tell you this.
i hope you got the required permits to do the job abd also a cert electrican and also have it inspected .
I dont know, but how bout that second answer? Myk cyndy are you employed by your towns building dept.? jeez
