How much does it cost to put air conditioning vents in a 50 year old house?

Question:I am trying to buy a split level house (50 years old) in NJ and it is about 2000 square feet living area. It has window AC units.
How expensive are Window AC units to maintain?
How much will it cost me to put air ducts in the house?

Answers:
If you are asking about putting central air in and having ducts for this, they usually use flexible hose. In my brothers house it cost about $11,000 for everything.
Window a/c are not that expensive to maintain. I usually just clean mine once a year, and put a cover over them for winter.

Put the a/c units upstairs and they will exhaust the heat and cool the bottom level. We have a big old 2 story we burned up in til we discovered this idea. Course we block off a few unused rooms we are still remodelling.
It depends on the type of heating you have in your home. If you have forced-air heating, they can utilize the same ductwork for air conditioning. The only cost will be installing a central air unit. Otherwise, you will have to install new ductwork (usually small, round, flexible tubing) for the air conditioning. I did a 1400 square foot house for about $1100, but that was almost 12 years ago. The central air unit was about that much as well.
