My air conditioner work for a few hours, but then slows down during the night?
Question:I have a window AC unit. I'll turn it on, and it runs great, but then after I've been sleeping the cooling power starts to diminish, the room gets more humid, and the unit makes dripping or clicking noises. There is VERY cold condensation on the bottom of my unit (on the inside portion), and I live in a very humid place. Thanks so much

your window unit is icing up, do you have the thermostat dial set to maximum cool? try backing it off a little bit so the unit can actually cycle on and off, make sure the air filter is clean also.
Basically it is working very hard in a humid environment which can cause the AC to freeze up. Simple solution if the unit is a power-saving rated appliance is to set the temp and let it regulate the temp which will shut off the AC. If not you may have to decrease the amount of cold air it produces for an hour or so a day to let the AC unit recover.
Also when a unit freezes up like this and produces less cold air there is sometimes a refrigerant leak.
It sound as if the coils are freezing.
That means the air flow isn't as good as it should be.
I would check the filter to see if it needs cleaning
What happens is that the flow of air in to the AC is blocked & there isn't enough air moving over the coils to take away the cold air from the coils & they just get colder & frost forms on the coils.
This could also be caused by furniture blocking the front of the AC.
