Replacing lightbulbs that have been discontinued?

Question:Hi, I need to replace 5-inch clear globe lightbulbs from a 30-year old light fixture. They say 25W 120 5v Dura-Lite. I cannot find that bulb anywhere. What can I safely replace with that is available now? Thanks!

Answers:
That sounds like a fixture I used to have in my bathroom. I found 25W clear, round bulbs at Wal-Mart in their bathroom accessories. As long as you don't go over 25W for the old fixture you should be okay. These bulbs aren't coated and they aren't egg-shaped, they are clear and round. Look for them in both the light bulbs and the bathroom accessories.

Maybe it's time to replace the fixture? It's very easy to do, shut off the power to that area of the house, match the wire colors to each other and you're done.
