Help! Does any plumber know how to fix my drain?
Question:The shower in my house is backed up. We've tried draino, sub pump, snaking through the drain at all openings. Nothing works. Finally, we filled the sink then opened the drain of the sink for the water to drain and the shower drained a little. I don't understand how it's all connected? PLEASE advise. What else can we do besides call a plumber?
Answers:
Okay, here's the deal! Drano is no good.it only creates more problems in the long run. The harsh chemicals in Drano will eventually eat your pipes. Since most homeowners dont have the equipment that plumbers do, your snake was probably too small and/or not long enough. I'm guessing it was a hand crank snake that is 1/4 inch in diameter and 25 feet long..I'm right aren't I? Callin a plumber is the best solution. He (or she) will know exactly what to do! If you dont call a plumber and continue to try to remedy yourself (motor oil down the drain, which is completely BOGUS!!) then you risk making the problem worse and possible running up costly plumbing repair costs. Actually, I like when homeowners try to repair their own plumbing because those are the people I make the most money from! Take this advice...its the best answer you'll get! CALL THE PROFESSIONAL!
yes
never use drano, and call a pro plumber.
make sure you tell him you've used drano so he doesn't burn himself.
you most likely have a root grown into you drain pipe in your yard somewhere. Involves a lot of digging.
I do this when my pipes are clogged with hair and it works every time. Go to Autozone and get about a gallon of Castrol or Havoline motor oil and try that. If you lubricate a clog it will become slippery and won't grip the inside of the pipe, eventually loosening itself completely. Worth a shot.
snake further than the drain opening.
well usually when a snake doesn't work its tree roots in the pipes. Hair clogs, can pushed further down but if that was the case you would have the tell tale signs of sludge and hair on the end of the snake. Its time to actually call a plumber hun. You can't do a thing if its tree roots. Sometimes, depending on where in the main it is getting clogged the city utility dept will fix it. Just find a local plumber tomorrow, so you don't have to pay for higher weekend fees.
please what ever you do , don't dump motor oil into your drain. It won't help, it's illegal, and it's not cool, your sink and shower are connected by using probably the same vent pipe that's why when you drained your sink you created a little suction wich made tjhe water move in your shower...best advice, call a pro...the do have to eat and most of the time they know what they r doing
In tough situations, it does indeed take a little experience and 'tricks of the trade'.
Call a plumber or rooter guy.
Rooter guys are a little cheaper, $45-65/hr. Almost always can get it done in a hour.
But a good repair plumber is what I recommend, and they'll be around the same price.
I told you already to call the plumber. Now that you have
used draino, you screwed it up, and he will now charge you
more for the use of toxic chemicals. Since you are stubborn
and cheap, and proved you can't do it yourself. My advice is
CALL THE PLUMBER. Glad you didn't ask about any heart
surgery. :-})
Dont dump motor oil that is the worst thing ever. Um it sounds like a clog deeper down. Also having rotto rooter coming out once a year helps. Trees roots are as wide as their branches and when it is try out they reach even further.
