Potato cannon help?
Question:i made a air powerd potato cannon that you pump air into a chamber that conected to a butterfly valve. my problem is it keeps leaking in places where i glued..pvc glue dosent work and epoxy is to expensive ( i need lots) and caulk dosent work...(at least the stuff i used) what other glue would be good for gluing pvc pipe

pvc glue comes in two parts - the base and the eccelerator...and it will work the best...a butterfly valve, huh, I have only made them using starter fluid and a click lighter glued through a hole.
Did you use the pvc primer first. Glue won't hold tight without it.

Did you use electrical or plummers glue. You need to use plummers glue and use cleaner first it will hold if you clean it good
prep the connecting joints with sandpaper and primer prior to gluing. pvc will hold 120 p.s.i easy. i noticed you didn't mention sanding or priming.
To be honest with you, ABS pipe and fittings is tougher.
As far as tensile strength is concerned.
And, since ABS is not available to you probably, don't make a gun you have to pump up.
Anyway, let me tell you what happened,
My son got my tater gun and shot it for a friend of his. The tater went a long ways into a field across the street. We were out of town when this went on.
Neighbors call the cops on shots being fired, and give our address. Our son tells the officer everything that happened and the cop leaves.
A few minutes later, the cop shows up with an other one, knocks on the door, our son answers.
The cops asks if he could show the tater gun to his partner, because he has never seen one so well built, that could shoot so far.

If you are dead set on using PVC in a air pump system,
let the glue joint set a while before you move it. I bet that is what you are doing wrong. You are making a glue joint then moving the gun around while preparing it for the next joint.
PVC sch 40 can hold a static pressure of 125psi easy.
If you are making a gun with intentions of have more pressure than that in it though, you need to go sch 80, or make a gun that uses hair spray like the rest of us have.
be careful with that thing, a friend of mine made one that could kill a person easily...he knocked the dumpster at the end of his parking lot (at his gun store) off the edge of the parking lot and down the hill on a regular basis.

bite the bullet and use epoxy.
try using gorilla glue but let it sit for 24 hours before you use it the glue has to cure that long
