Well pump won't prime?
Question:The well pump in my neighbor's basement won't prime and is cavitating. There aren't check valves in the system so when he fills it up it drains back to the well... this supplies water to my house as well, please help me...
Answers:
You either have a check valve at the end of the pump or a foot valve at the bottom of yout point. One or the other is bad. It won't prime with it bad.
If it's pvc check for a crack.
Sounds like it's time for a new pump. With both of you splitting the cost, it shouldn't be too expensive for either of you...

Make sure you get a pump big enough to handle the demand of BOTH households.
And of course, you are going to want to make sure that your water line hasn't developed any holes, and that silting isn't a problem.
i had a similar problem and was told there is a check valve inside the pump (if it's a submersible) a quality pump can be rebuilt, but a cheap one needs to be replaced. my well is 177' and requires a 3/4 -1 horse pump, you can buy them at most home depot, lowes, locke supply etc. type stores. depending on your abilities you CAN replace it yourself BUT!! IT AIN'T NO FUN!!! I strongly recommend someone experienced in servicing wells!! a quality pump can run $800-1000.00 depending on size/installation.
check value is clogged
there is a footvalve at the bottom of the pipes in the well...either this is leaking or one of the pipes going into the well is leaking.
