Answers:
Do you have a pool store anywhere near your house? If you do then take a sample of water down to them and have them do a full spectrum analysis on it. Make sure they test for:
Total chlorine
Free chlorine
Combined chlorine
pH
Alkalinity
Hardness
Cyanuric acid
Total dissolved solids
Metals
Phosphates
Salt
Bring these results back and post them or feel free to send them to me at robandliz1992@yahoo.com With this full analysis we can get your pool back into shape with the least amount of work and expense
Please include the gallon size of the pool, material it's made of (vinyl or concrete/plaster), filtration system, chlorination system, and any chemicals used in the last week or so if you know.
Do you have salt water in your pool
if not then add chlorine it should clear up don't forget to vacuum it
if you have an above ground do not drain it .. the liner will shrink ... we learned that the hard way :( and it's about $800.00 for a new liner
is it a saltwater or chlorine pool?... if chlorine, you can shock it then get the chem levels back to normal.brush and vacuum too.
dont guess - go directly to http://appliancequickfix.com/
they have one great page on pool water maint.
Assuming you don't have a salt system it's probably old water that's been shocked often. When chlorine breaks down it becomes salt. Maybe something else is off and they were trying to compensate with extra chlorine. Can you taste the salt? You'll only need to drain... full or partial... if certain parameters are elevated, such as total dissolved solids, stabilizer, total hardness.
