My freezer door has trouble staying closed...what can I do?
Question:My freezer door has been taking to creaking open and everything inside the door is completely melted, and the food/ice etc inside the freezer is starting to melt. It is only open about 1/2 inch or so, but it opens when we are asleep or at work, on it's own, or when we close the fridge, but I close it right back, only to find later it has creaked back open...maddening!...I am thinking the seal is not good on it(around the door). Is there any way I can fix this? I know it seems like an easy fix but I don't know how to go about it. Anyone have this problem, and what did you do?

I've seen this phenomenon with older refs. The magnet in the gasket has weakened and will no longer draw the door tight to the frame. You can try to remagnitize it but that may be a pain. Would need a good remagnitizer, not one made to remagnetize like screwdrivers or something. Best bet is probably just to buy a new gasket as that will insure you have not only a fresh magnet but also a more supple gasket (older they are the stiffer they become). Can replace yourself but it will take some time and patience.
check the seal & make sure there are no obstructions. wash it off really good. raise the front end of the fridge slightly ( at the bottom corners, there are screws you turn to raise or lower). if all else fails, use a piece of duct tape at night until you can get a new seal
Try cleaning the rubber casket around the door. If that doesn't work have the freezer casket replaced.
Gasket is bad around door. Easily replaced. Screws to door. Check PartSelect.com. Probably $50-75
It sounds to me like your door closer is shot, but why guess ?
