Anyone knows the pros and cons of solderless copper bonding? Joining two copper pipes by "glue"-like cold weld
Question:A product called "Just for copper" for Do-it-Yourself" claims that it is just as good as welding, as strong for both hot and cold water copper pipes. Is this true? See http://www.solderlesscopperbonding.com/p...
Answers:
Well Im a Plumber 20yrs to long. LOL
And I would not nor will I use the product.
There are alot of other ways to put copper together without solder. Pex Pipe, Crimp, and so On.
1 Big problem with the glue is you need the perfect pipe to do it I mean by being VERY CLEAN. You have to to clean with solder also but there is self cleaning flux also.
I could go on and on here but I wont. The glue industries have taken leaps and bounds But for now I will stick with what I know will work and last. If I hade to use this product I would use it on something thats not under pressure Like a T&P Valve on a HWT or a consindation line or something like that
Goodluck
there are a lot of stuff out there that claims to do something that it won't! This is probably one of them! If making a repair, and don't want to solder, go to home depot and get sharkbite fittings ( tees, couplings etc.) They work very well
I've seen this glue before and I've seen two grown, big men with pliers trying to pull this pipe apart after the glue has set up but I'm willing to bet that you cant find a professional plumber out there who will use this stuff. I've never seen sharkbite fittings at home depot, not to say that other area HD's dont carry them, just not around here. There's a plethora of information to give on this subject but not enough room on the whole internet to give it. Shark bites are good but sometimes hard to apply in tight spaces. The absolute best is to solder..good luck in your adventures
