What will happen if you seal your blacktop driveway just before a hard rain?
Question:I went home at my lunchbreak and saw that my driveway had just gotten sealed. We had a major rain storm from about 12:00-1:00, so at the very most the driveway got sealed 3 hours before the rain. I read that you are supposed to get it sealed at least 36 hours before rain. I was wondering what happens though? Will I need it re-sealed, or will my driveway be damaged by trapping in the rain? The driveway has never been sealed before, and is 8-9 months old. I also live in northern Illinois if any of that will help you in coming up with an answer. Thanks for your expertise!
Answers:
From what I have seen the rain could actually make the sealer run off into the surrounding areas of your yard.
It should be fine. Most sealers are oil based so water wont bother it.
your house and driveway will be splattered, you should check the weather before applying asphalt sealer, it takes about 24 hours to dry completely.
