Cost for laying new gravel on driveway?
Question:I have a driveway that is currently gravel, but needs work. The tire ruts are well worn and dirt in some places with grass down the middle. My contractor said he would lay new gravel, grade it, and dig some drainage ditches along a slight grade for $5600. The driveway is 2100 feet long and 8 feet wide. This price includes all the work, gravel, delivery, etc. Is this a good deal? FYI - the only other person in my area that does this type of work has not returned my calls for a bid.
Answers:
Gravel is expensive.
I was shocked.
I put in a septic tank about 10 years ago and the price was normal.
I graveled some of my area for parking about 15 years ago and the price was normal.
Just put in a septic tank for a friend, (I'm a plumber and really don't like septic tank installations), and I told him what I though the gravel would cost based on my previous decades old knowledge, then told him to keep that in mind, that it'll be a little more now. IT WAS A LOT MORE.
Anyway, if you have a driveway that is 4/10's of a mile long, and he is willing to fix it, and plow you some drainage for $5600, I think you are doing good.
The gravel for my friends 140 foot leech line was a $1000
Gravel is high here, in New Mexico. Your contractor is probably in line.
