Pool care - problem pool, any advice?

Question:Our backyard pool is a monster! It greens up if you look at it crossways, and even when it's about the right color it's cloudy as heck. Chemical tests show we've gotten the PH good, but hardly any chlorine to show for all the chlorine we've been dumping in there! What are we missing?

Answers:
All my husband does to keep our pool perfectly clean and sparkly, is chlorine and 'Pool Perfect' which you can buy at a local pool store.

He monitors the chlorine balance and shocks every couple of weeks depending on use.

Our pool is always clear and we get a lot of compliments on how clean it is. It's 6 years old now and just beautiful!

Good luck!

O.K. Have you tested your total alkalinity lately this could be eating up your chlorine if it is not within recommened specs. for your pool start there if that checks out you need to pick a day to super shock the pool you can buy shock at your pool supplier or a wal-mart in your area just follow directions on the bags of shock.
And then as far as keeping it crystal clear they make a product called tru-blue this stuff is the bomb it will clear it up in a matter of hours but do not over do it with the tru-blue as it can have reverse effects as well if you over do it.

you could put in the machines that suck up all the grose thing in the water from the pool or you could put something over the pool to keep things from coming inside
Sounds like your chlorine is getting used up by whatever is dirtying up the water. Usually green water indicates an algae infestation and if that's what you've got, that's what's eating up your chlorine.

Have you backwashed your filtration system? Backwashing is where you reverse the water flow out of the pool to flush out the filter inside your pump: eventually your filter will become full of debris and can't hold anymore, so the only other place for it to go is right back into the swimming water. It will depend on what kind of pool you have, but you are most likely dealing with a diatomaceous earth (DE) filter or a sand filter. DE and sand are the different types of filter aids used to keep the contaminants out of your water, and your system has to be refilled with these after every backwash. Usually we can tell when ours needs it when the pressure gauge rises above what it normally runs on, though we try to do it once every month or two.

Shock it. If it's that bad, shock it twice. This will help your chlorine levels even though shock is not chlorine. After that, add some clarifier. This will uncloud the pool water. Most pool supplies stores will test your water for free and tell you what you are missing. Just take a bottle of your pool water to the store. What kind of filter do you have? If it's a sand filter, you might need more sand. Do it yourself if that's the case. I had it done and it cost a shocking amount of money to have the sand changed.
a) always call your shots
b) shoot pool only with friends
c) only play for fun

*much* less problem that way
