Pond not holding water?
Question:We have a 50 gallon pond with a pump. It wasnt holding its water. It seemed liked a simple answer at first, there must be a hole in the liner. So we filled the pond up and turned off the pump. For days the water sat at the same level. So, i said ok, ill turn the pond now and see what happens. There is now no water in the pond. Suggestions, theories? Could it really be evaporating, and we have to fill it up everyday?
Answers:
Maybe there is wildlife drinking water? Is it indoors? outdoors?. If there is a fountain with running water and the outside temperature is blazing hot, then the reason for the dissapearance of water is evaporation.
Sounds fishy to me. Sorry just joking. Sounds like the pump might be on reverse. Its taking the water out instead of recycling it. Check the pump.
Most likely you have a leak in the pump itself. It could be located from the drain hole back to the pump which would make it hard to find. Since it's a small pond, I'd pull the whole thing out and check the pump suction hose for leaks.
Does the pump have a pattern sprayer on the return like a fan or spray pattern? If it does it could be splashing out, I have a small 70 gallon pond in my front yard that will splash out water causing me to refill it with about 10 gallons every coulple days.
probably there was a small leak then it turned into a big one,50 gallons is not a lot for a pond, water does not evaporate that fast, your pump could be letting out water.
