Replaced a plug in my bedroom because a/c was going on but not pumping cold air same ac would work elsewere?
Question:When I replaced plug which also woked with wall switch I broke the tabs that connect the black and white wires. Now the ac works better(not like it shlould ) but the other outlets and a closet lite in the same room do not. Very frustrated
Answers:
I take it you are talking about the tabs that go between the brass and silver colored screws. They are jumpers that allow the electricity to pass across both sides.
Obviously you aren't supplying electricity to the other outlets.
Go buy another recepticle, do NOT break off the tabs, and replace it. Black wires to brass screws, white wires to silver screws, and ground/green to the green screws.
Bet that solves your problem...
Added later: Why rag on the guy? He is a do it yourselfer just like a lot of people. He came here for an answer. None of us started life knowing electricity, we learned, just like he is trying to do now.
Please find yourself an electrical handyman quick. Electricity will cause fires if overloaded. If you don't have the money to pay someone call the local habitat for humanity and they will help you. Be careful and don't let this problem wait.Good luck
you have no idea what your doing and you messed up your home wiring and now want us to fix it? Call a qualified person ...egads why does everyone believe they can wire a house, oh yea that tab was there for a REASON
You broke to many tabs. Do not break the tab on the side where the white wires go. You just killed the neutral wire. No big deal. Get another receptacle and do it over.
