Replacing soffits/fascias/guttering...

Question:Having a new roof,while scaffording is up
i intend to carry out this work ,any advice appreciated

Answers:
replacing the soffit, facia and gutters is a great little project. My only recomendation is that you have a helper. It looks better when you have long lengths instead of many short lengths. Be sure you dry fit your miters on the outside corners in case the framing is off before you start nailing. Also at every seam, put a bead of caulking to ensure it seals the end grain between the joints. For gutters, Use the hidden hangers. They have a hex drive screw that pulls the gutter into the house, and gives you one solid look instead of the old spike and farrel. Be sure if you are putting wood up to apply at least a coat of primer and maybe one coat of finish. It will make your life a lot easier. Doing a project for yourself is always a great thing. Nothing beats being able to say you did the entire thing. Good Luck, hope this helps.

PS (use stainless ringshank trim nails (usually 2"). They are a little expensive but will prevent streaking in the paint from brites or galvonized nails.)

if you need to ask the question ...don't do it yourself.
dont blame you my hubby is doing ours because weve had quotes for people to do it and they gave us ridiculus prices, just dont leave big gaps or you will have a wet house obviously, best of luck you will need it
ask the roofers if they will do you a
deal for cash..!!
I agree with Silly Gorbie, in which case ask the roofers, I am sure they wouldn't charge too much more.
Mainly good answers, make sure that there is a "fall" in the gutters towards the downpipe
Use plastic for the soffits, it doesn' rot and you won't have to do it again. Look at other gutters locally. The brackets should be 15-18 inches apart. Don't forget the fall towards the drainpipe. Make sure the ladder is supported properly.
if your diy skills are as good as your spelling, then you should take an English class instead and let an expert do the job
In reply to Scsparky good builders do not work for cash in hand, that is unless they are claiming benefits then he may think about it.Get the joiner who is putting new roof on to put new fascias on its all part of the roof anyway.
