My panasonic air conditioner CW-806tu worked well for many years but now it always freezes over...?
Question:its a good AC and im wondering if any of you know about air conditioners and why it freezes over and how to fix it? ty.
Answers:
If it freezes over that's an indication of low freon. It needs recharged and the leak needs repaired. Charging it alone without fixing the leak may get you anywhere from 2 days to 3 years all depending the the severity of the leak.
1 more possible reason it could freeze up is if your coils are plugged up or flattened.
check your filter, make sure it is clean, check your evaporator and make sure it is clean, anything beyond that will require a service tech to troubleshoot, good luck!
like greg said.. a good cleaning wont hurt.. low air flow over the coils can cause it to freeze up. changes are there are no service valves on it
First off have you cleaned the filter? Reduced air flow over the evaporator will cause it to ice up. If the filter is clean then the coil is probably being starved for one reason or another.
The system could have a refrigerant leak that is causing the coil starving or one of the cap tubes may be obstructed which is starving the coil.
I assume we are talking about a window unit? A tech can service it but for the cost you are better off buying a new one.
