Whats up w/ my ac?
Question:It will turn on and work but not perfectly it will throw off cold are and then after about 5-10 min it will just shut off completely.

unfortunately YOU cannot tamper with the refrigerant due to EPA regulations, and frankly it just isn't worth messing with, they are so cheap to just replace it would be more expensive to pay someone to fix it than to get a new one. you live in an apartment so repair or replacement should be covered by management, read your renters agreement find out if normal wear and tear is covered, talk to management and good luck to you.
it might have a thermal shut off....if it gets to hot it will turn off till it cools.......
there used mostly on big motors and solonoids..
ive never heard of one on a ac before though
could be a number of things
low freon
bad over loads on the compressor
thermal cut out
I would call in a A/C guy
you can not add any freon to a windows unit ac cause it is a sealed unit. it would cheaper to buy a new one . unles it is a central unit then you will ahve to call a cert ac tech
