Air conditioner problem. We put an older window unit in our living room.?
Question:We have had several hard rain storms. My husband had not done any caulking, so it rain in, where the unit sits. Some water came down our wall to the electric socket. Lately after our unit runs for about 20 minuets, it trips our breakers. We don't know if it is the unit or the sockets. does anyone have any ideas?
Answers:
Take the cover off of the outlet and inspect for moisture. If it's wet, point a fan at it to dry then replace the cover.
If it's not wet, then you probably have an unrelated problem.
(The A/C is made to be mounted in a window so the motor won't get wet from rain.)
i would change the outlet to a GFCI. and then have the ac check. and please seal around the window if you do not want to have to replace the floor
You may have gotten the motor wet. ~
First thing to do is check the outlet ( may have to replace it ) and try that.
If it still does this then it could be the motor is getting old and is getting too hot. And remember to always seal around the unit.
You may need to oil the moto as well
