if it's a one room ac, like 5 thousand btu, they are less than 100 bucks for a new one, and 69 bucks in the winter. I would buy a new one because a motor will cost 50-70 bucks and you'd have to know how to install it to save on a mechanic to do it.
window unit, dont bother fixing it, if you were a mechanic and had some free time, you probably wouldnt bother fixing it either because your time is too valuable and window units being so inexpensive it just doesn't make sense. Get a new unit, better efficency will save you some money on electricity, best of all, it should give you troublefree operation for years to come. good luck!
p.s. if its completely dead(no power at all) check your circuit breakers to see if one has tripped.
well if the motor went out than you will have to replace it but you can check it have to pull the unit out take it outside plug it back in when you turn it on carefully touch the fan motor you can tell if its trying to turn or not leave it on a min or so if that fan gets screaming hot than its burned out or the start/run capacitor is bad
