Air Compressor gets hot up to 400 pounds then shuts off.?
Question:Then it won't come back on unless we hit the reset button. What gives? It worked fine last year. Edited: I had to resend this as home compressor. I had sent it as a car. Sorry

you may need to cool it off with a fan also if you are able to blow it off with air nozzle to clean dust off of it,we have the same problem at work in the summer
I work on home duty air compressors every day, and I have never seen one that will pump over 150 PSI. Are you sure yours is pumping up to 400PSI? In normal situations the overfill valve will dump-off the excess air pressure to prevent the air tank itself from exploding! If you will give a little more information, I will try to devine what is ailing your compressor.
If it pumping 400 lbs, I bet it is getting hot, It should not pump that much, unless you are in commerical stuff, and I don't think that be so around a house. Explain more about it
400 Pounds no wounder it over heats good greffffff home compressor's need to stay in the range of 125 psi the blow off valve is about 130 to 135 cut it down
if your compressor is pumping 400 psi,you have a problem with the cut out switch,that is to high of pressure a normal compressor cuts out at 125 psi,your pressure switch is defective or needs adjustment.
400 pounds is almost explosive! Check your pop off valves. At 400 pounds the compressor is probably seizing up. that's why you need to reset it. I've never seen an air compressor sent to more than 140 pounds. I really wouldn't let this air compressor go that high. Try resetting the shut off pressure.
IT shouldn't pump up to 400 pounds..better get a new regulator switch..this thing could erupt..Of course it's getting hot..trying to pump up to 400psi
