How do you clean the coils on an air conditioner?
Question:coils inside have build up on them. How do I get to the coils?
Answers:
I use a hose with a high pressure nozzle. If it's real bad then call an A/C guy to have it serviced and cleaned.
If it is outside use hose, If its inside use Vacume cleaner or Compressed air
Just about all coils, if installed by a decent mechanic , have an access panel to get at the coils. If not, you will have to call a heating and air condioning shop to cut one in for you, unless you're handy with snips.
Once inside they can be cleaned by vacuum cleaner and soft brush. There is also a spray available to loosen the dirt before using the vacuum.
Theres an liquid soap they sell at the supply house,if its outside coil, spray and wait 5 minutes and hose off,,If its inside spray and it washes itself off..They are both safe,
Access panel that has the copper piping going in it.Turn off the unit first the suction is strong, and replace right or it wont operate correctly,,the water will get sucked backwards and flood.Or get a fin comb.
first, you need more detail- is it window unit, wall unit, or outside unit?
in most cases, turn it off, rinse with a water hose if it's just dirty. (window units- just take the casing off outside, unplug it, do not turn it back on till it is completely dry.)
If there is hard build up, you need a special cleaner and comb. Call your local hardware store and ask. or call an a/c man.
Coils on the condenser unit (outside) or coils on the inside of your furnace both need cleaned? The outside coils can be cleaned out with a garden hose and/or coil cleaner from a HVAC store. The inside coils can be cleaned with a spray solution, The furnace coil cleaner has less acid and smells better, usually the moisture that the coil inside has on it is enough to rinse the coil without the need of water rinsing.
use a garden hose or an air compresser. Depending on how dirty it is..your a/c tech will have a chemical that can clean grease and what not off your coils. Be good to your coils... you do not want to damage them..
