Can I replace a Mercury Vapor Bulb with a Sodium Vapor One??

Question:I have a Mercury Vapor Security Lamp and I want to replace the Bulb for a Sodium 150 watts (The Mercury One is 175w)

Answers:
if it is ballastless then you can, if it has a ballast, then the installed ballast now is 175 watts, you can't install a 150 watts bulb to a 175 watts ballast

no, the lamps are not interchangable.
yes and no I think they have the large base but a sodium will not work in a mercury vapor , but a mercury vapor will work in a sodium fixture I put up a sodium light I did not really want the orange light and all my other MV are white so I put a MV bulb in a sodium fixture been working every since
The only way to do it is to replace the ballast with an HPS ballast. The MV ballast will kill your HPS lamp.

If it were me I would put in a MH ballast for the improved light quality and energy savings.
